Get Ready: Transitioning from VesselView Mobile to the Mercury Marine App

Discover our newest boating app – a powerful tool that makes your on-water adventures easier

SmartCraft VesselView App Transition

In 2024, Mercury rolled out a new, enhanced Mercury Marine app compatible with SmartCraft®-capable engines and SmartCraft Connect modules. This new app is the most powerful, most capable system we’ve developed, and there are already Mercury owners around the world enjoying its features.

In fact, the water’s so good over on the new app that we want current VesselView Mobile® users to come and join us. This summer, we’ll start transitioning VesselView Mobile app users to the new Mercury Marine app. Don’t worry … there’s nothing you need to do right now, zero expense for you and you’ll still have an awesome app experience. We just want you to be prepared and know what’s coming.

If you use VesselView Mobile, here's what you need to know:

  • You can keep using the VesselView Mobile app for now. Eventually, it’ll be removed, but not until we’ve helped you transition to the Mercury Marine app.
  • You don’t need to replace your VesselView Mobile hardware. This summer, we’ll roll out functionality that will enable your VesselView Mobile hardware to wirelessly connect with the Mercury Marine app. This will enable you to shift apps with no additional purchase required.
  • Turn on your app notifications – When the transition begins, we’ll notify you through a VesselView Mobile push notification. Turn on your notifications so you don’t miss it. You can also watch the Mercury website or sign up for emails to be notified when it’s time to switch.

If VesselView Mobile is great, why are we doing this?

We’re committed to providing a mobile app as a companion to Mercury engine owners. For several years, we’ve provided this service through VesselView Mobile. Yet, the future is full of exciting new possibilities for mobile boating apps – for boaters, dealers and our boatbuilder partners. To support everything we’re dreaming up, we need a more robust platform. That’s why we developed the new Mercury Marine app. It has the capabilities we need to roll out some exciting new features in the future.

What you can expect in the new Mercury Marine app – including new boating features

At first, you won’t notice many differences in features when you switch from the VesselView Mobile app to the Mercury Marine app. You will notice a fresh new look and feel that’s been recently redesigned. Plus, there are more great features in development. When you switch, you’ll still have access to live data, digital gauges, maintenance tracking, fuel tracking, faults and a GPS map with helpful resources, including a recent addition: range rings.

We also just added some helpful new features to the Mercury Marine app:

  • Warranty tracking – No need to call customer service. You can keep tabs on your warranty in the app. If you’re trying to sell, this is a valuable tool to show a potential buyer remaining warranty.
  • Mercury Product Protection info – If you have Mercury Product Protection, you can track how much time is left on your plan or decide if it’s time to add more coverage.
  • Engine Health – This “maintenance counter” tracks engines hours in real time, displaying how long you have until routine inspections and service are due.

The future of connectivity: SmartCraft Connect Mobile and SmartCraft Connect

Someday, maybe soon, you’re going to walk into a Mercury dealer and sign the papers on a new Mercury engine. When you do, you’ll need to know how to connect that engine to the Mercury Marine app, now that VesselView Mobile is phasing out.

There are two options to choose from based on your needs and desired level of connectivity.

SmartCraft Connect Mobile –> App Connectivity

SmartCraft Connect Mobile is the new VesselView Mobile. It’s a plug-and-play module that’s simple to install and allows you to stream live engine data to the Mercury Marine app. There’s a single-engine module (8M0173128) that installs on the engine and – new for 2025 – a multi-engine module (8M0173129) that installs under the helm for boats rigged with up to four engines. They’re both compatible with Avator outboards and Mercury engines with SmartCraft capabilities (2004 and newer, 40hp and up; 2022 and newer, 25hp and up).

SmartCraft Connect –> App Connectivity + Onboard Display Integration

The SmartCraft Connect module gives you the same app connectivity as the Mobile version, plus the ability to integrate an onboard display from Simrad®, Garmin® or Raymarine® via NMEA 2000®. From the display, you can access the VesselView user interface, which lets you monitor engine functions and even control some SmartCraft technologies (may require additional hardware; consult a dealer) from the screen you use most. Currently, there are four SmartCraft Connect modules available. See the chart below. Consult your dealer for more details on module selection, compatible displays and additional hardware needs.
